Hi my name is Tony Borrego. My wife and I have been married for almost 12 years and have 2 beautiful little girls. I have always wanted to help people in some sort of training capacity. I had no idea fitness would lead me down the path it has.
My first real experience with fitness started with a 3 year commitment to the United States Army. After many push ups completed, and almost as many miles ran I had decided working out probably wasn’t for me. Not long after my time in the Army I started lifting weights with a friend in his basement. Typical setup, chest and triceps one day, back and biceps the next and so on. Somewhat rewarding, but extremely boring.
My friend Jarrett and I had been working out together for awhile and he called me one night and said “Flip your TV to ESPN!!” It just so happened that the very last workout of the 2011 Crossfit Games was on. As I watched that workout I found myself completely blown away!! Not only by the way these athletes looked but also by the way they never slowed down, and most importantly they seemed to be having FUN!! The very next day we started working power cleans.
The changes that I saw both physically and mentally over the last almost 4 years, have me completely bought in to the Crossfit methodology. Crossfit’s aim is to create a broad, general,and inclusive fitness. I experienced that firsthand. Going from literally not knowing what the moves were to now coaching has been an amazing experience. A blessing. Anyone can do Crossfit, and everyone at Crossfit Steel Courage is going to encourage the athlete next to them! So lace up your Nano’s, chalk those hands, and let’s GET AFTER IT!!!!
